The Audi Q5 benefits from a host of technologies that are engineered specifically to lower its fuel consumption while keeping a high level of performances and luxury. Here are some of them.

The Eco mode

The Audi Q5 allows you to choose between multiple drive modes in order to better suit your driving style, the road conditions or your mood. When you want to drive more economically, selecting Eco mode helps you by tuning all of the vehicle’s system to prioritise a lower fuel consumption. This is most evident by the behavior of the accelerator pedal, which becomes less sensitive and more progressive in order to make smooth accelerations easier since they use less fuel to get the Q5 up to speed than brisk accelerations. The programming of the engine is also changed to prioritise efficiency over performances and the shift points of the S Tronic transmission are also modified with the goal of keeping the engine speed lower than normal

The mild hybrid system

The Audi Q5 is available with two engine options, one of which is equipped with a mild hybrid system. This powertrain, which takes place under the hood of the Q5 45 versions, is composed of a 2.0L turbocharged TFSI engine and a small electric motor which runs on a regular 12-volt electric system. This has the benefit of improving both the performances and the efficiency of the Q5. Indeed, the electric motor teams up with the gasoline powerplant to provide a combined output of 261 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque and to add a boost of power when driving slowly. The presence of the electric system also allows the standard stop start system to be more assertive, since the vehicle can move begin to move while the gasoline engine is starting up, which eliminates the delay that is often created by these types of systems.
